War for the Planet of the Apes - (review)

The third part of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ directed by Matt Reeves with title ‘War for the Planet of the Apes ‘ is a very thought-provoking movie which poses the message concerning war, morality and survival and the ape civilization, which can be viewed as a movie in the development of a new civilization. The films’ emphasis is a character of Caesar, of course, performed by Andy Serkis, and the brilliant work of this actor indicates that an actor’s acting in the context of the mocap is no longer a mimicry of a cartoon character but has evolved into an extremely effective means of constructing an animated character with a deep and complex psychological profile.

This is the life of Caesar, who has to deal with a reality of war where enemies kill and mutilate his people – thanks to the action of the cold hearted Colonel played by Woody Harrelson. This psychological journey is converted into a general leadership talk as it raised a question about how one would remain ethical when one is in a great loss and in a state of existence peril. The gestural beauty borne of thematic calibrations all come together in the construction of a beautiful well crafted movie the conduct of which through the cinematographer Michael Seresin paints every frame with a sort of discord in physicality as well as in terms of ape social politics.

War for the Planet of the Apes is the most popular B movie franchise and it also offers the best watching and they do have a very good plot, which looks quite philosophical, as it address such important questions as understanding, redemption and the right to exist. It convincingly establishes the trilogy in the sphere of grand movie achievements and shows that such roots are capable of creating a very special kind of …in its essence a science fiction film… a fairy tale of the mind, of love and the given chance to try to comprehend an enigma – a man who looks like a monster.
