Tufang - (review)

The film so titled is shrewd combination of action, suspense, and social messaging called until now and possible to have an equally powerful cast and story narration as in the film Tufang. The story take us through the events in the mind of Veera who thoughtlessly goes to a reputable gun house to shoplift a gun only to find Arjan who is the heir of the name involved with her. Their first conflict becomes a mixed relationship because Arjan falls in love with Veera, but she provokes his actions and provokes a twist that keeps the audience interested. The name of the film is based on the Persian word to a long-barreled gun, and this adds a deeper meaning to the story, since it represents the strength of arms used to fight a just cause.

The fresh cast of the film is also its strength as Guri and Rukshaar Dhillon portray a strong character, where their chemistry is tangible. The role of Mouser Singh Brar played by Jagjeet Sandhu is considerably deep as it represents the darker sides of conspiracy and suspense in the story. The direction of Dheeraj Kedarnath Rattan adds suggestive dialogues and action sequences to make the narrative stand out. The story becomes more complex as Guri seeks to retrieve the gun stolen and discovers a string of lies, and ethical situations that bear the message about the risk of misusing weapons and the necessity of speaking the truth. The themes touched on in the film also include violence, innocence and deception.

On a visual level, Tufang does justice to showing the grunge in Punjabi culture and environment, having well-scripted action and real-life characters. The roles of Deep Kaur, which are played by Rukshaar, are very strong and natural, and the role of Mahabir Bhullar as the grandfather Guri is very emotional. Another important message is the need to avoid weapon abuse in the movie, coupled with the effects of integrity, which makes this movie mandatory to watch. After watching the film, “Tufang”, I found myself thinking about how judgment and decisions can affect a destiny, and how people should be able to defend the truth in a chaotic world.
