“Treason” is full of suspense striking anew for every excursion into the complex network of personal connections it portrays as its spying and betrayal scenario. It was named after and based on the protagonist, Adam Lawrence who faces struggle between his career and his relationships with his former operative girlfriend, Kara, and his wife, Maddy.
The success of character growth is found in the shades and qualities which are depicted as loyalty and issues of self-discovery. It does this while managing to tie moments of high tension with emotionally engaging scenes that does not allow the pace to drop. It has powerful image in each episode as a result of cinematography, and great musical background for thrilling and thoughtful moments.
Like every show, this one has its pacing problems, mostly regarding the middle of the season, and some of the plot twists may seem slightly contrived, but the emotional core of the show is surprisingly powerful. In that regard, “Treason” Season 01 combines character drama with the spy genre well while making people think about loyalty and cost afterwards. This drama provokes both the viewer who is interested in political intrigue and the viewer who loves stories with depth of feeling.
