The psychological thriller “Trap” by M. Night Shyamalan dictates how a Lady Raven concert begins with joy but develops into chaos that intertwines suspense with horror. Immediately after the movie begins there develops a sense of ominousness which suggests future sinister events and leads to a hunting progress for a serial killer that pushes a father through an intense experience with his daughter and their greatest fears.
Through their character interactions the story obtains extra substance particularly within the bond between Riley and her father Cooper. The father-daughter relationship matures into life-saving situations which arise when hostile outside forces threaten them. Both actors deliver strong work which stands out through the complex depiction of the father who fights to shield his daughter from their horrifying circumstances.
Shyamalan’s atmospheric direction along with the appropriate cinematographic techniques create dread and claustrophobic atmospheres yet the pacing misses its target which damages the overall tension. The movie occasionally overdoes its suspense-building moments which interrupts how well the story flows. The compiler admits that “Trap” features several shortcomings yet its exploration of trust and survival and fear makes it stand out as an important contribution to Shyamalan’s work that leaves a lasting impact on the viewer.
