Tòkunbò is a dramatic, tense crime thriller in Nigeria that dwells on morality, family, and the risky decisions of people when the pressure is on their shoulders. The movie revolves around the character played by Gideon Okeke, named T Okunbo, an ex-car smuggler who is buried in his own regrets of the past and is living in order to give a better future to his family. This story intelligently alternates between dynamic scenes and more deeper thoughts about family and self-martyrdom, and makes it an interesting tale of survival in the midst of destruction. Repenting from a life of crime is a strong theme that points out at the inner conflict of being a man who lived back in the past and is waiting on his future redemption.
The storyline gets more tensed when Tokunbo, who is presently earning as a cab driver, is drawn back into his criminal underworld when he requires funds to finance a life-saving heart transplant of his child. His finding an opened phone of a transporter by accident turns into a crucial event that drives him into a risky game of pretending and ethical dilemma. This becomes even more intense as he is assigned his next job of delivering Nike, the daughter of an influential government employee which shows an even bigger corruption and behind the scenes politics of gaining. The movie flows very quickly with the suspense growing every time another delivery is made, as it reaches the climax of a narrow race against time.
