The Pope's Exorcist - (review)

“The Pope’s Exorcist” is an gripping film that delves into themes of faith, fear and the supernatural. It follows Father Gabriel Amorth, the Vaticans exorcist, as he investigates a case of possession involving an American man in 1987 Spain. The movie showcases rituals.

Explores the complex relationship, between the Catholic Church and demonic forces using horror to offer social commentary. The suspenseful atmosphere is heightened by cinematography that plays with light and shadow effectively.

The characters are well developed with the lead actor delivering a performance, as both a believer and a skeptic capturing the essence of beliefs. While it includes elements found in horror movies it goes beyond scares to provoke contemplation on concepts of evil and human nature long after the screen fades to black.
