‘The Meg’ is an action packed science fiction thriller that follows a group of researchers as they venture into the Mariana Trench accidentally awakening the shark known as the Megalodon. Like B movies it blends excitement and humor in its shark fighting sequences while staying true, to its storyline.
Jason Statham shines as the rescue diver protagonist and the quirks of characters add charm to their typical genre arcs. Visually the film impresses with its backdrop and stunning underwater scenes. The special effects those involving the shark are truly hair raising.
While ‘The Meg’ faces some pacing and plot issues certain story elements can be anticipated easily; however it still delivers plenty of thrills and suspenseful moments for viewers. Ultimately ‘The Meg’ embraces its identity, as an B movie monster flick that promises a fun filled adventure just as its trailers suggest.
