The Lockdown - (review)

The Lockdown plunges the audience into the raw account of the worst prison in Myanmar, and offers an intense tale about enduring and hope. The bleak tone and fierce atmosphere of the film pulls you toward the horrible experience of the brother Charlie and Jack the bond of which was strained when they had to go on televised battles with lethal competitors. At the very beginning, I experienced the blend of tension, hope, and unadorned humanity, hence their situation is very interesting in an emotional way.

The movie does a good job with the themes of loyalty, injustice and grey morals against ultimate conditions. Caity Lotz and Leo Howard play incredible parts with their toughness and sensitivity of several characters. Their interaction balances the heavy action scenes with emotion, and the scenes of horror have a greater dramatic effect because of that. The film style has a ceaseless intensity as the action beat is as fast as the sequences which are subdued and which show the actual price they pay because of the experience.

Depictively, the great cinematography and the brutal production design put one in the real cinema environment that enhances the feeling of danger and despair. The nature of the music is to up the tension and the special effects and editing are brisk to maintain the impetus. The message of the film was most meaning to me: the resilience of humanity: that in most dehumanizing circumstances, there remains the spirit to survive, to retaliate. Being a little bit predictable and poorly developed in terms of character arcs, The Lockdown can be characterized as a powerful, emotionally evocative thriller that left quite an impression concerning the resilience of the human will and those ties that hold us strong during the blackest times.
