The Darkest Hour - (review)

“The Darkest Hour” tells a dramatic tale about an alien operation in Moscow that initiates a merciless assault against humans by disrupting power grids through an unexplained beam-like presence. American software analysts Sean and Ben find themselves in danger after a failed business transaction then join forces with survivors Natalie and Anne and enigmatic Skyler to traverse Pages territory’s descending into darkness.

Emile Hirsch delivers a compelling performance as the main character but several minor characters lack complexity so audience members struggle to bond with them. Amazingly vibrant lighting effects combine with sinister city frameworks to intensify the ongoing suspense during this production. The movie builds emotional tension through special effects combined with haunting background sounds during its most dramatic moments.

Although the science fiction film maintains its initial gripping nature through striking visuals its pacing defects together with conventional storytelling elements cause several plot expectations to become unambiguous and finish without satifaaction. Sci-fi readers can find enjoyment and excitement in this film yet it misses a chance to build deeper connections with viewers due to its underdeveloped characters and derivative plot structure. Despite its shortcomings the narrative effectively explores survival and determination when confronting worldwide threats.
