Season 04 of The Cleaning Lady looks closely at themes of power, ethics and survival as it follows crime and family matters. Because of the season, the characters have to handle more serious and difficult challenges, due especially to Ramona being locked away and how Thony acts with a questionable moral compass. The show successfully highlights how Ramona’s story changes as she interacts with others, mainly creating an interesting conflict with Thony. I was drawn to Thony’s transformation from someone just trying to survive to a person taking hard decisions which put her own morals and family into conflict.
It impressed me most how the series sought to understand moral choices in the season. Because of her position in the cartel, Thony has to challenge what it means to be good as life keeps pushing her to the edge. The series points out that sometimes people must give up their principles to stay alive, even though it also highlights the brave soul needed to stay kind in tough situations. Everyone in the cast does a convincing job and Thony and Jorge’s friendship develops into an interesting mix of challenge and support. It was obvious how much Fiona struggled to provide for her family, giving everything they faced with some real depth.
The show which feels both raw and emotional in its visuals, sometimes offers confusing moments as a result of having numerous plots. Certain aspects of the plot came across as staged, almost disrupting my ability to believe the story. Despite this, the series does an excellent job at making viewers feel many things and reflect on the sacrifices a group must make to stay alive together. On the whole, The Cleaning Lady Season 04 is an intense drama that challenges people to ponder how far they would go to support their family when the values involved are not clear-cut.
