Teen Wolf: The Movie - (review)

“Teen Wolf: The Movie” envelopes the much adored supernatural saga with doses of nostalgia, adrenaline, high stakes fantasy. Now under full moon, the sinister light touches upon Beacon Hills, and a terrible new evilution is born into the world, calling forth the horrid howling of wolves, and filling the air with mythology of ferals beasts from all origins, banshees to hellhounds and kitsunes. The film is about Scott McCall, now an adult, and yet, an Alpha, who his leadership and courage are challenged at their highest level. It is only by him that both new allies and old friends can be mobilized to confront, perhaps collectively, the greatest threat to the town to ever occur.

The story captures the feel of the series friend ship, loyalty, and the war between good and evil, while heightening the tension with an infectious blend of unsurpassed supernatural folklore and action. Scott’s rise from tender youth idol(t) to mature leader, suggests a progression and sense of maturity, highlighting themes of responsibility and resilience. The buddy-buddy relationships between the characters are still authentic, and new supernatural entities bring new overlay to the constantly developing mythos, making the book interesting even for long time readers and newbies.

In visual terms the film provides a kinetic act of the film and darkly atmospheric scenes along with the creature designs that both inspire awe and terror. The score exasperates the tension effectively supplementing the tension filled cauldron of collision and comradeship. Although the premise dabbles in well-trodden territory of heroics and unity respectively, it’s the affecting performances coupled with the throwback to the classic series that really hit the mark. “Teen Wolf: The Movie” is an electrifying return to Beacon Hills —an exhilarating, emotional, and fiercely fun journey that shows us why when we fell in love with its supernatural world in the first place.
