Survive - (review)

The film “Survive” creates a rasping thriller experience through its immediate introduction of psychological tension starting at the movie’s beginning. A couple accompanies their son to celebrate his birthday out at sea until a terrifying storm abruptly devastates their celebration. During the tempest all the dormant sea creatures beneath rise from darkness to threaten the survival of the main characters.

The movie shows the precise nature of being isolated when the pair battles both the windstorm and sinister deep-sea creatures while confined within their tiny vessel. The escalating tension emerges from cinematic techniques that paint the storm with chaotic beauty together with unsettling underwater shots that increase the sense of danger. Through well-designed production elements the studio creates spaces with suffocating atmospheres which correctly convey to audiences a growing sense of horror from approaching dangers.

The most powerful element in “Survive” lays out how intense pressure affects the bonds among family members. Throughout their ordeal to survive the storm the relationship between the couple changes when it tests their inner qualities and weaknesses. Their son serves as their driving force since their parental love strengthens the suspenseful tension. Despite occasional cheesy elements such as creature designs the film succeeds in maintaining audience engagement because of how intense its survival ordeal becomes. This pulse-pounding survival experience creates a deep emotional impact by showing what we would do to defend our loved ones even in moments of death as it stays with viewers permanently.
