AGASOBANUYE LIVE

Novocaine - (review)

Novocaine is a dark comedy with crime, romance and action, focusing on Nathan Caine, who is unable to feel pain. We see Nathan’s timid adventure through his role as a manager change to him heroically saving his girlfriend Sherry from some robbers dressed as Santa. Having this rare condition looks like a challenge for the main character at first, but it later helps him battle the criminals as he cannot feel pain.

The story incorporates offbeat humor and lots of action, switching between serious emotions and funny ones. The quiet moments between Nathan and Roscoe and his troubles with Sherry, give the story more emotion. Sometimes, the movie is cheerful and sometimes it becomes violent, thanks to the movie’s many quirky and explosive moments. All the performance are appealing and particularly the main actor, whose quiet manner and simplicity make his character’s growth believable and fun to watch. Because of both its suspense and its humor, the story holds the audience’s attention throughout the series.

The film uses realistic settings and scenes along with stylized action and the pace remains lively throughout. Nathan’s flaming hand and bone as a weapon make the action stand out and along with the dark humor, the movie brings something different to this genre. When the movie ended, I had a strong sense of admiration for how original and charming it was. It is about normal people rising up, accidental love, getting stronger through making themselves vulnerable and wrapping it all in dark comedy that is also gentle and touching.
