The series Make It with You S01 is a poignant show exploring the vagaries of love, in a beautiful backdrop of Croatia. Emotional richness of the show is enhanced with the help of strong acting of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, whose relationship takes their otherwise mediocre romance to a higher level. They are dealing with the theme of sacrifice, hope, and self-discovery, and it is easy to recognize these themes as the characters of the play, Billie and Gabo, are struggling with their inner struggles; specifically, Billie was devoted to her family bakery and Gabo was trying to find a place to belong.
It is a visually engaging series that portrays the rich scenery and historical character of Croatia, which creates some sense of escapism and makes the viewers lose track of time in the worlds of characters. The music is also used to reinforce the emotional mood and smoothly changes between playful and depressing melodies; the sweeping shots of the camera make one feel longing and wanting. The production design and the direction slightly highlight the internal conflicts of the characters, their personal ways become closer and more natural.
The show has some strong aspects, but sometimes, it succumbs to clichés of rom-coms, and there are certain instances of unsurprising dialogue and pacing problems when the scenes are more dialogue-oriented. Nonetheless, the one thing that remained imprinted in my mind was the way in which the show delves into the fragility of personal ambitions versus family needs. The way Billie tries to rescue her family bakery as she falls in love with Gabo presents an emotive story of putting first things first. On the whole, Make It with You is an emotionally touching movie on the difficulties of love and the sacrifices needed to sustain that love, and the end result is hopeful and inspiring on the viewers.
