Karate Kid: Legends - (review)

*Karate Kid: Legends* is a nostalgic but new interpretation of martial arts film that combines the classic way of seeing the element of endurance, the ideas of teaching, and learning yourself. The accountability of an altruistic juvenile who moves to New York City accompanied by the inner as well as outer conflicts, the film illustrates the common quest to settle in new surroundings in struggle with personal adjustments. The central idea of the story, an underdog up against the impossible odds, haunts you in an emotional way, reminding that real power lies in the courage of coming out on top, staying humble and with help of great teachers.

The acting including Ben Wang as Li Fong display sincerity and charisma to the screen. Jackie Chan as Mr. Han is wise and warm and the best mentor anyone could ever have, since his actions focus on the importance of character rather than fighting. The nostalgic appearance of Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso gives additional credibility and continuation worth the fans of the classic show. The chemistry of all these characters drives the bulk of the story, causing their training and development to be not only believable but also uplifting. Both serious martial arts fight sequences and warm mentorship scenes suggest the film to be a balance between serious impressions and heartwarming scenes, despite the showiness its subject matter normally evokes.

The film indulges visual delight through characteristics of martial arts which is rich in its visual choreography that displays both kung fu and karate martial arts in a way that one style flows into another in a manner of symbolizing unity and flexibility. New York City backdrop is so fresh and it brings energy, an opposite of the traditional martial arts background with a flavour of the city. The music is a complement to the action, increasing the level of tension and victory. It has recognizable beats to its plot, but its theme of mentorship and self-belief makes it a cart above the usual sports movies. In the end, *Karate Kid: Legends* lifted my spirits, which implied reminding me that the real secrets of winning the challenges of this life is to never give up, always treat people with respect, and be wise and prudent under the influence of your guides.
