Jailbreak comes highly recommendable as an electric rush of filmmaking that pulls into the center of a prison breakout of high risks and seamlessly intertwines intensity and emotions. The story of the film revolves around a high tension hostage scenario and a wild escape mission, all in the cramped narrow walls of a deteriorating prison. Even on the opening scenes, the insanity can be felt and the movie is in a constant state of adrenaline rush. The rough action scenes, mixed with tactical play and surprising turns make it feel like a rush and the viewers are engaged in the chaos and each minute feels like one minute to die.
The image of determination and friendship between the characters is what I personally found unforgettable. The highly vocal ensemble, made up of Jean-Paul Ly and Dara Our, engages the audience with powerful acting that makes the disorder relatable, with the main focus being on the concept of loyalty, sacrifice and justice. Though surrounded by brawn, these characters display an uncivilized will that takes us back to power of unity in the face of dire situations. The emotional sub-plot behind the action show creates the film to be more than spectacle, as I empathized with their plight and their wins and losses.
Graphically, the movie “Jailbreak” is a masterpiece courtesy of its dirty cinematography and true-to-life production design that makes the film feel real and oppressed. The special effects and the fight choreography are visceral and the viewers can immerse themselves in each of the tense confrontations. The music adds more tension, increasing the risks with each courageous escape. Although the movie does sometimes indulge in the cliche and plunge down the plot momentum, its overall strength and soul touch left me feeling elated and stirred. Jailbreak is pure blood and guts, a heart-pounding, heart-wrenching ride that leaves you feeling on top of the world even after the credits have ended.
