AGASOBANUYE LIVE

G.I. Joe: Retaliation - (review)

Azaad takes place during 1920s India when the fight for independence was at its most dramatic. The film’s director manages to show the emotional life of that time through a compelling narrative about a boy and his liveliest companion. The friendship they build represents how they remain strong, aspire and learn about themselves, just as the nation does in wanting freedom.

The actors’ talents make the film more emotional. Despite his calm manner, Ajay Devgn is key to the story, while Aaman Devgan adds real hesitation as the young main character. Nuances and depth are provided by Diana Penty and Piyush Mishra as the supporting actors, so audiences can imagine the time period and locations. With breathtaking landscapes and thoughtful design, the film recreates the look of the 1700s and its music adds to important parts of the plot without stealing attention.

What I remember most was the film’s encouragement of hope and the strength found in basic bravery. How the film showed the boy with his horse made me admire him and recall that being brave often means doing small things. In spite of certain parts that were a little fast or easy to call, Azaad still manages to honor resilience, give us a fine story of friendship and stay with its viewers long after the credits end.
