The film “Fountain of Youth” is a thrilling and gorgeously produced story about a mystery, history and reuniting a family. The plot follows two siblings as they try to find the Fountain of Youth and in doing so, focus on ideas of forgiveness, their legacy and wanting to live forever. Adventure and thoughtful moments are paralleled in the narrative which adds historical clues to increase suspense and hold the viewer as the discoveries reveal new layers of the story.
The film does a great job using cinematography and production design to show the lush environments and historic ruins which make the magical world appear both real and fascinating. Expensive-looking special effects are used carefully to improve the story’s epic feel, but without distracting from it and the strong performances by the stars, especially between John and Gina, bring out the emotional elements. As the story continues, the score fills these uneasy and breathtaking scenes, keeping the audience fully engrossed for a long period.
I was most impressed by the way the film considered mortality and how life is truly experienced. It highlights how short life can be and why having deep connections with other people is important for everyone which leads the audience to look for greatness inside themselves rather than searching for legendary treasures. I felt the story got deeper than most adventure films thanks to powerful performances and meaningful ideas, inspiring me to think about the real significance of life and what we hope to achieve in it.
