Dominique - (review)

“Dominique” is a thought provoking movie created by Melissa Tran that skillfully explores the complexities of morality within a world setting. The narrative follows Dominique,an assassin portrayed by Leo Martinez who finds herself in a town marred by societal violence. When she confronts her struggles she becomes entangled with a family, in distress prompting reflections, on loyalty and selflessness.

Martinezs portrayal of Bolden stood out to me the most, for its depth and complexity; she depicted Bolden as yet vulnerable as she navigates her challenges with resilience. The other actors also shine in highlighting themes of love and betrayal in an environment.Marco Riveras cinematography beautifully captures the ominous beauty of Colombia along, with its historical realities.

The movie is overall emotional and thought provoking; however it lacks in pacing and depth of emotions portrayed. The character Dominque needed focus, on her backstory to truly connect with the audience on a deeper level. “Dominque” challenges viewers to contemplate dilemmas and the intricacies of relationships while serving as a reminder to confront ones past in order to grow and evolve.
