Contraataque - (review)

The survival-action film “Contraataque” by Antonio Ramirez follows five friends along the US/Mexico border as they use humor to escape brutal attacks from hit squad members. Five friends begin their day shopping before sicario assassins chase them because the audience later discovers that these individuals belong to the elite “Murciélagos” military group. The unexpected twist in the plot leads the audience toward an extended analysis of identity together with loyalty and heroism.

The movie shifts dramatically from friendly comedy sequences to intense dramatic moments which builds deep sympathy for the main character Miguel Cruz along with the rest of the characters. The tight direction by Ramirez and the breathtaking cinematography work of Esteban Morales creates an appeal that engages viewers by showing both large-scale and personal settings.

The emotional depth of the film is strengthened by Sofia Reyes’s musical composition and Javier Ruiz creates an engaging structure through his expert editing. The film manages to resonate despite its occasional action-genre stereotypes because it presents meaningful narratives about resilience and friendship which create lasting impact about courage between friends. People who love action-packed movies need to see this film because it delivers an unmissable entertainment experience.
