Seducing Drake Palma S01 - (review)

Seducing Drake Palma is a refreshing and captivating series that creatively incorporates comedy, romance and a bit of emotional complexity. The main character is a small girl called Alys, who becomes involved in what appears to be a very easy task: to seduce an enigmatic man, Drake Palma, in the name of her best friend. What starts as a fun game of trickery soon turns into the very complex thing when real feelings begin to emerge between Alys and Drake. The series is full of the tension of a fake relationship becoming a real one and the theme of loyalty, love, and the vagaries of human emotion.

Rabbin Angeles and Angela Muji give their characters a warm and realistic performance. The endearing nature of Alys with her gossip girl attitude and internal anguish over telling the truth and wanting to make a difference makes her likable and easy to identify with and the mysteriousness of Drake slowly but surely brings out layers of vulnerability. The romance between the leads is tangible, and all the scenes are filled with suspense and true feelings. The flow is quite energetic with a combination of comic and emotional moments, keeping the audience on edge, up to the very end.

The series visually has an exciting production design and a captivating cinematography, in addition to its youthful, modern tone. The light-hearted music is strong in several scenes to define the flirtatious and emotional tunes in the series. The most interesting to me was how the narrative gently touched on the gray areas of fake and real love, bringing about a sense of hope, desire and the melancholy of love. Seducing Drake Palma is a lovely show that teaches us that love sometimes can come to us at a time when we are not expecting it.
