Who Rules the World is an adrenaline thrilling martial arts, political intrigue, and a forbidden love story that holds one enthrallt untill the end. The show itself is artfully weaving gory action with soft scenes and the end product of it gives us an epic scaled story but simultaneously intimate. It positions the viewers in an uprooted, chaotic world of war where two antagonistic yet harmonious characters- Hei Feng Xi and Bai Feng Xi find their way through echelons of treacherous politics without being aware of their own flourished romance. The tempo of the show is fast, yet it has few urgencies and it also does not leave emotions behind, so the viewer is sitting enthralled before the screen, but he/she is taking time to reflect on the issues of loyalty, justice and sacrifice that are prevalent in the show.
I was most struck with the unsurmountable difference between the leads, whose personality and their war poem are an embodiment of their worlds one of fine beauties and another one of great feral power. The couple possess chemistry that makes their love become authentic and touching in the chaos. There is something about series that left me wanting much of something – some hope and some bittersweet tenderness. To the sight, the film is spectacular; every shot is painfully crafted with cinematography being lush, production being immaculate, fight choreography being action-packed, and score being captivating in creating a great emotional investment. The characters are not that simple as joint actions that lead to depth of personal lives, and the inner and the outer threat are equally attractive.
Despite the great job to create the atmosphere and to give certain hits emotionally, there were moments when I would have recommended to give more information about personal backgrounds of certain characters. The different plotlines tend to interrupt the action here and there, but that is more or less incidental flaws in a very gripping story. Overall, Who Rules the World touched me– speaks of the strength of love and inner power of the hope and integrity. It should be watched by those individuals who enjoy watching martial arts drama which fires both the heart and mind.
