Dangerous Lies - (review)

The movie Dangerous Lies is a thriller that promises to take the watcher to a different world full of lies, greediness, and a sense of a lack of morale. The strong storyline of the film is how lives can be ruined by something unpredictable as inheritance and something unknown as secrets, and it is extremely interesting to bring the audience into the world of betrayal and danger. The mastery of its tone is striking, as it shifts back and forward between tender vulnerability and maniacal tension which leaves the audiences guessing at every moment. What struck me the hardest was how the narrative questions the corrupting powers of greed and weak position of trust and made me wonder what can happen to ordinary people when their survival is in danger.

The acting is subtle and touching, most of all the young couple who feel so very sincere that their tragic situation seems personal and timely. The minor characters bring on depths of suspense with characters such as Hayden and Julia incorporating the sinister side of human behaviors. Competent directing keeps movie at a proper pulpy pace, uplifted cinematography and low key music add suspense but never overwhelm. All these are factors that result in a tense effect to the point of my adrenaline being high as I run through each twist and turn.

The movie turned out to be a memorable one, in the end; it raised the need to look deeper into the greenery of morality and the reality of surface effects. The conclusion poetically plays out a reveal of hidden treasure in the form of buried diamonds and points to a mute thinking about what are the true treasures in life that are sometimes just right under our feet. Although some of the plot elements seem to be predictable or handled rather hastily, the feeling of the movie and the way it addresses emotional implications proves to be a stirring and insightful direction into the nature of frailty and greed of humankind, awakening the senses and emotions of suspense, empathy, and introspection.
