Almost Paradise Season 1 is an impressive combination of crime and drama and a heart-touching tale with a rich, green background of Cebu, Philippines. The plots and the comfortable feeling of community attract the viewer to watch the series and the given topic of redemption, purpose, and resilience make the series interesting and worth to watch. It is suspense with humanity and helping you feel that you still have a chance or there is some hope or even inspirations while diving deeper into how even the quietest person can feel that desire to find justice and make something worthwhile happen.
The main character is Alex Walker, a retired DEA agent trying to live a peaceful life running a gift shop only to be lured back into policing by criminal undercurrents in the island. The subtle way in which he was being depicted, the stoicism in him mixed with the vulnerability, caused me to support him as he traversed the journey. The additional members of the cast, such as the local police officers Kai Mendoza and Ernesto Alamares, make a tremendous contribution to the overall narrative due to their ingenuine bond of familiarity and cultural richness that makes the overall dynamic compelling and highly entertaining.
Cinematically the series is outstanding with intensity in color photography that depicts the beauty of the Cebu landscape, but on a backdrop doing stark to the serene emotions of the island, there is obscurity of crime. The tone is crisp, character development is dead even as far as the plot is concerned and the sessions are well-spaced. The music which is a combination of local music and suspense enhances emotional moments as represented in the score. In the end, I had an optimistic mood after listening to the song called Almost Paradise, because it makes a person remember the idea that the best adventures and feeling of being alive and useful can often be higher than expected in an ideal place or in our hometown.
