In “Duplicate,” mistakes about identity happen against a lighthearted, action-filled and humorous background. Shah Rukh Khan plays both characters, Bablu and Manu, extremely well and it’s easy to tell the difference between them. The chemistry between the main characters and Khan’s variety of acting give the film both pleasant and thrilling scenes. When you have two people who look the same involved in a crime and mistaken for each other, the plot makes the film impossible to stop watching.
With its colorful camerawork and detailed style, the film shows off the very different lives of the chef and the gangster in an inspiring way. The way the actors deliver their lines during mistaken identity sequences and chases brings a welcome humor to the plot. The soundtrack follows the film’s lively tone and contributes to making it more enjoyable. Even though the plot is easy to predict at times, the movie is always moving at a quick pace, thanks to funny confusions.
Most striking to me was how the film joyfully explores identity and the problems that occur when appearance doesn’t match reality. Because Bablu is trying to keep his family safe, the film’s humor remains close to the heart and easy to understand. Even though the film has some cliché parts, its dynamic performances and exciting tale make it enjoyable. All in all, it’s a lively film featuring Shah Rukh Khan and gives viewers plenty of thrills, suspense and laughs.
