Hypnotic - (review)

“Hypnotic” is an intriguing psychological thriller, which drags the readers into a world of mysticism and mind games. Detective Danny Rourke has lost his daughter and there is a huge search for her carried out in his story. As he moves further into the case, the line between reality and illusion starts to merge and a very complex web of secrets and deception is revealed in which audience cannot help but be caught guessing at every turn. The film has an intense, out of kilter mood that it cleverly achieves throughout the storyline from beginning to end.

The show is very interesting, and the main actor’s is histrionic and biting, creating a portrait of a father who pushed himself to the brink. Diana Cruz, a talented psychic, adds supernatural to the already complex story, by combining paranormal influence with hard core detective novels. The equivocal nature of the characters’ interactions (or should I say – contacts) develop in layers, each of which is tense, – serving thesis on trust, interpretation of phenomena, truth, etc. The direction is exact even stylish in its ability to lead audience through the maze of twists to increase suspense and make a story unpredictable.

Sensory wise the pictures use a haunting surreal look with cinematography enhancing the disorienting nature of the plot. The score imperceptibly reflects upon the film’s disconcerting affect, and meticulous editing keeps a rapid pace in order to provide clear delineation within the film’s complexity. At last, “Hypnotic” examines the frail outlines of the mind and dueling for truth in our own minds. It is a thought provoking visceral experience that sticks to the back of your mind to ask what is real and beyond the surface.
