A CIA agent fights for survival alongside his translator during a desperate journey across hostile Afghanistan while under security risk. From the beginning the film creates an atmosphere of intense danger which demonstrates Afghanistan as a dangerous nation with unstable loyalties. The simple chase structure which displays multiple groups chasing the protagonists establishes an atmosphere of daunting challenges while the characters make their way toward Kandahar.
Action sequences presented in the film are directed with practical brutality that conveys both personal combat danger and the fatal consequences of operational errors. The visual style of the cinematography faithfully displays the harsh arid desert landscape making both audience and characters experience the hostile surroundings.
The emotional stakes fail to achieve the same depth as other aspects in the movie. The main character shows competence but remains relatively unfaltering to his feelings whereas his internal conflict fails to fully connect with audiences. The essential relationship between the operative and translator remains underdeveloped throughout the story which limits their emotional connection from reaching its possible maximum effect. The film provides a suspenseful viewing experience by delivering an intense portrayal of suspicious pursuit and survival necessity leading to a state of unease in the audience.
