Through “Big George Foreman” filmmakers bring us the life story of George Foreman from his time as a poor kid to his accomplishments in boxing and eventual role as a preacher. Several themes such as redemption and resilience coexist with the compelling sports drama that director George Tillman Jr. created in this film. Some points in the pacing fail to maintain a steady rhythm which results in important scenes being quick regardless of their necessary emotional impact.
Through his role Chris Diamantopoulos delivers a convincing portrayal of Foreman demonstrating his evolution from agitated youth to a man on a mission for purpose. The narrative foundation that the supporting cast attempts to maintain struggles partially due to their underdeveloped characters who inhibit essential dramatic emotional exchanges between them. Through its visuals the movie portrays authentic boxing matches and intense velocity while showcasing peaceful reflective periods in Foreman’s lifetime.
The film teaches us to appreciate how human beings transform because of their willpower. Although the film does not deliver a complete emotional exploration of Foreman’s story it presents an engaging journey of persistence and dignity which promotes viewers to contemplate their capability to transform and persevere through challenges.
