Mechanic: Resurrection - (review)

Jason Statham plays Arthur Bishop who attempts peaceful retirement as a master assassin until his past reappears when he becomes the target of violent attacks. Bishop leads a peaceful existence in Rio de Janeiro until his romantic interest Gina becomes abducted while Bishop stays in Rio de Janeiro. The abductor forces Bishop to perform three dangerous assassinations with staged deadly accidents as the alternative to both Gina’s safety and his own survival.

Through its narrative the film successfully combines elements of loyalty with love relationships and unrelenting memories from past experiences. Bishop faces worsening consequences from his past as the plot intensifies through personal risks. Bishop’s adventure moves him through strategic confrontations and savage fight scenes before leading him to the protected haven that his friend Mae operates. Throughout the story the film shows both external conflicts and the rising romantic feelings between Gina and Bishop during their dangerous journey.

The movie offers mesmerizing visual elements which pair perfectly with the action sequences while Statham’s strong physical presence depicts his inner struggles through his journey of loyalty and dark past. Through a combined use of suspenseful and explosive moments the plot propels viewers’ engagement yet it mainly supports the deeper narrative subjects of sacrifice and redemption that guide Bishop’s entire odyssey. This compelling story makes viewers ponder between leaving behind their past existence and holding onto new connections that forms in the present day through an intense action-packed tale.
