Reflecting the by-then real-life themes of the 1990s, “The Worst of Evil/青出于江湖” – Season 01 mainly portrays the undercover police officer that works to bring down a crime empire covering South Korea, China, and Japan. The show is filled with 4 major plot – ambitions, love, loyalty and betrayal, which highlighted moral conflict of the protagonist while living a double life. The characters are well developed and the writing is realistic some what dramatic adding suspense in everything done by the main characters.
The performances are splendid especially of the lead who does emotions of innocence and turmoil so well the chemistry with wife who also plays a cop is excellent. Through direction and cinematography the glamour of the crime world and the grim reality of the crime world have been captured aartfully for the viewer. To this, sound track and, in particular, music support and create an atmosphere of suspense and empathy.
Most significantly, it maintains a fine balance over the pacing, which assessed in some situations is becoming an issue, to make them appear more complex than they have to be. However, these are small problems in comparison with the plot and in general – with the characters and the themes the game has for the player. Therefore, ‘The Worst of Evil’ is an interesting crime show that demonstrates some of the worst aspects of human nature and makes the viewers reflect on what one is willing to do for loved ones and responsibilities; therefore, any fan of a complicated crime series should watch this show.
