13 Bombs - (review)

This movie immerses the viewer in the chaos of already chaotic Jakarta by weaving together high tension with a well-developed theme about trust and right or wrong decisions in difficult times. The story brings audiences into a rush as they try to stop 13 bombs from exploding, always making things frantic. Because of its exciting story and fast movements, the film feels urgent, so it’s hard to close your eyes as the city is threatened by danger.

Director Sze Lin creates another level of narrative through the actors and both Oscar and William provide humanity in the story during the scenes. The author shows Arok as a cold and magnetic figure, showing how fear can hide in our cities. The film is highlighted visually by capturing the lively scenes of Jakarta with equally shadowy quiet areas and all of it is kept intense with the help of a strong soundtrack. The visuals are well thought out so that the bombs and destruction appear realistic and raise the feeling of danger. Strong editing and snappy conversation maintain the film’s brisk flow and depth.

I was most intrigued by how the movie looked at trust, making sacrifices and moral behavior when people face challenges. It caused me to experience worry along with encouragement and think deeply about the actual problems of terrorism and security. Sometimes the story was easy to guess and the characters were not as detailed as they could have been, yet “13 Bombs” shines as an intense film. Overall, the film brings intense excitement and looks at the division between discipline and disorder and the strength found in humans.
