The Exorcism of God - (review)

A deep examination of faith and human experience blends with guilt stories which create impossible watching experiences beyond conventional horror. During an exorcism Father Peter Williams becomes possessed which prompts him to do something which turns into eternal sacrilege. The passing of eighteen years reveals his guilt which now fights against past wrongdoings that endanger his soul and innocent people surrounding him.

Through cinematography the unsettling mood is built and the film showcases how the Mexican town displays its dual qualities between aesthetic charm and structural deterioration. Through the precise production design and moving score the audience experiences a world where belief lives together with despair while experiencing increased tension at specific dramatic moments. Through theological dialogue the film forces audience members to ponder about guilt and redemption as Father Peter confronts his inner demons.

The story traces Father Peter’s path through conflict to create its powerful emotional center while questioning whether faith can be restored following serious sins. The Exorcism of Godbreaker forms a scary look into moral pathways while presenting challenging dialogues that sometimes create pacing problems but still establishes itself as a thought-provoking exploration about hidden dark aspects of humanity.
