“Close” is a rather touching drama by Lukas Dhont that attempts to tell about friendship, friendship between young people, and love. Living with adopted brothers named Leo and Remi, the protagonist is thirteen-year-old boys’ relationship immediately ends when the friendship breaks forcing Leo to feel lost and grieve. A comparison of the childhood and youth of the girls is presented, and much attention is paid to the things that have never been said: feelings and social expectations.
For the part of Leo and Remi several young actors were selected, who are not only able to express the work’s connection but also put some emotions into the film. The kind of camera work adopted is appropriate in depicting the lives and seasons of the two subjects as well as the happier moments, the thoughts of their negative inclination, and the graduation through the teenage stage seamlessly in the case of the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
Therefore, along to the concept of ‘growing up,’ ‘Close’ is the search for responsibility and a speculative search for friendship, as well as a nonage. Despite some moments which can make the scenes seem somewhat boring the introspective parts bring the extra flavor into the movie. Thus, the movie “Close” is a revelation of the cinema industry as it is close to all concepts of emotion and friendship and things, which are not voiced, but experienced. This reminds people of care and accountability of the existence and friendship before embracing a strong message of love and togetherness.
