The first season of “Bel-Air” is a dramatic continuation of the show that students remember from the ’90s that was called “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Successor of the legend by the name west Philadelphia born and raised it stars Jabari Banks as Will Smith When Will transfers from the mean streets of West Philly to the opulent, though fundamentally different surroundings of Bel Air, the show makes us laugh at the contrast between Will’s rough upbringing and the cheeky, elitist attitudes of the Banks family.
The show explores themes such, as identity and family dynamics through the relationship, between Will and his Uncle Phil. Getting direction from Morgan Cooper, there is added relevancy and complexity which makes the audience think about such themes like the class and ambition. The lively Los Angeles adds to the story and perhaps even acts as a major character in the story; a symbol for lust.
Of course, pacing is a bit uneven and some episodes have tricky episodes with the choices of the musical accompaniment ; the dialogue is not always as brilliant as it could be. Overall the clever blend of cynicism and humor, in the drama effectively conveys a narrative, on embracing ones self and finding acceptance thus allowing the characters to evolve and resonating with cultural significance.
